Trump Condemns Clooney Family’s French Citizenship, Accuses Them of “Horrendous” Immigration Policy Failures

President Donald Trump criticized actor George Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, after reports that the couple and their twin children were granted French citizenship. In a post on Truth Social, Trump labeled them “two of the worst political prognosticators of all time” and accused them of causing France’s “major crime problem” through what he called “absolutely horrendous handling of immigration,” comparing it to his criticism of President Joe Biden’s approach.

Trump claimed Clooney drew more attention for politics than for his film career, stating that he was “not a movie star at all, he was just an average guy who complained, constantly, about common sense in politics.” The former president also referenced Clooney’s past role in Democratic fundraising and his public break with then-President Joe Biden following Biden’s debate performance, as well as Clooney’s later support for Democrats during the party’s leadership contest.

French government records confirm that the Clooneys were awarded French citizenship. The family has spent significant time in southern France after purchasing a property there in 2021, citing privacy and a more normal upbringing for their children as reasons for relocating. Clooney has long been active in Democratic politics and fundraising, including writing a widely read New York Times opinion essay in 2024 urging Biden to step aside from the presidential race.
