RNC Vows to Uphold Mail-In Voting as Trump Advocates Ban

Stella Green, December 19, 2025

The Republican National Committee has stated it will not challenge President Donald Trump on mail-in voting following a report that suggested otherwise.

GOP press secretary Kiersten Pels described the RNC’s mission as protecting and increasing voter turnout through enhanced confidence in the electoral process. “The RNC’s work to strengthen voter security has increased Republican participation, and this cycle we are ensuring every ballot is secure and properly counted,” Pels said.

Politico reported that Republicans in three swing states are advocating for mail-in voting despite Trump’s public denouncements of the method as fraudulent. Pennsylvania GOP Chair Greg Rothman emphasized early and mail-in voting must be a priority for the 2026 election cycle. Similarly, Jim Runestad, who chairs the Michigan Republican Party, confirmed his state would fully engage in early and absentee voting.

Runestad noted that in Michigan, mail-in voting is legally permitted unless constitutional amendments are enacted—a scenario he expressed doubt about. A source familiar with GOP strategy indicated the party encourages all voting methods but does not view itself as “leaning” toward mail-in ballots.

President Trump has repeatedly labeled mail-in ballots corrupt and part of a widespread fraud scheme, while proposing executive actions to eliminate mail-in voting ahead of the 2026 midterms. Nationwide, dozens of states considered hundreds of bills restricting mail voting in 2025, with about ten states passing laws that limit procedures for mail-in ballots.
