Trump Links Filmmaker Rob Reiner’s Death to “Trump Derangement Syndrome” in Viral Post

President Donald Trump on Monday attributed the deaths of filmmaker and comedian Rob Reiner and his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, to what he termed “TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME” in a social media post that drew widespread condemnation.

In the post, Trump wrote: “A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood. Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele, reportedly due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME.” He added that Reiner “was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump,” claiming the death occurred amid a “Golden Age of America.”

Reiner, 78, and his wife, 70, were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday with stab wounds according to law enforcement. Their son, Nick Reiner, 32, was taken into police custody as a suspect, though the investigation remains ongoing.

When pressed at the White House about his comments, Trump stated: “I wasn’t a fan of his at all… He was a deranged person as far as Trump is concerned.” Reiner, a longtime supporter of liberal causes and Democrat candidates who criticized Trump as “mentally unfit” and accusing him of “treason,” died after publicly denouncing the president’s conduct.

Rep. Mike Lawler, R-N.Y., condemned the post on social media, writing: “Regardless of one’s political views, no one should be subjected to violence, let alone at the hands of their own son.” Rep. Stephanie Bice, R-Okla., similarly urged Americans to prioritize prayer over politics, stating: “A father and mother were murdered at the hands of their troubled son.”
