Hours After Trump Claims Ceasefire, Thai Forces Bomb Cambodia

Stella Green, December 12, 2025

On Saturday morning, Cambodian authorities reported that Thai forces—including fighter jets—continued striking targets across their disputed border in the hours following President Donald Trump’s claim he had brokered a ceasefire.

The Cambodian Ministry of Information stated: “Thai forces have not stopped the bombing yet and are still continuing the bombing.”

Thailand’s military countered with accusations that Cambodia was committing “repeated violations of international rules” by targeting civilian locations and laying landmines.

Trump claimed Thailand and Cambodia agreed to a cease-fire effective Friday after calls with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Premier Hun Manet on Friday night. However, neither leader referenced the agreement in subsequent statements, and Anutin denied any ceasefire existed.

When asked about Trump’s claim, Thailand’s foreign ministry referred reporters to his statement. In a Saturday Facebook post, Hun Manet noted discussions with Trump and Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, stating Cambodia remains committed to resolving disputes peacefully under an October Kuala Lumpur agreement. He also urged U.S. and Malaysian intelligence agencies to verify which side initiated the latest attacks.

Since Monday, Cambodia and Thailand have exchanged rockets and artillery along their contested 508-mile border in some of the heaviest fighting since a five-day clash in July that Trump intervened to halt through direct calls with both leaders. The two nations previously agreed to withdraw troops, release 18 Cambodian prisoners of war, and dismantle heavy weaponry—a deal Thailand suspended last month after a Thai soldier was injured in landmine-related incidents Bangkok attributes to Cambodia’s actions. Cambodia rejects the allegations.
