Cruz Slams ‘Scandal’ in Minnesota, Claims Fraud Funds Terrorist Group

Stella Green, December 3, 2025

(WASHINGTON) — Sen. Ted Cruz on Wednesday accused Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota Democrats of being responsible for a massive fraud allegedly costing billions from taxpayers.

Speaking on “Rob Schmitt Tonight” at Newsmax, Cruz decried what he termed an ongoing crisis targeting the state’s finances: “There has been massive fraud to the tune of billions of dollars bilking the Minnesota taxpayers,” he said. “Much of that has gone to fraudulent individuals in the Somali community who have been sending that money back to Somalia.”

He further alleged a direct connection between taxpayer-funded schemes and terrorism, specifically naming Al-Shabaab: “The single largest funder of [the terrorist group] is the taxpayers of Minnesota through fraudulent money that was stolen from the taxpayers,” Cruz asserted.

Pointing his finger at Democratic leadership, Cruz declared: “And I’ve got to say, the person in charge of it is Democrat Gov. Tim Walz. It is an absolute scandal.”

The senator characterized this situation as embodying what he sees as the bankrupt policies favored by today’s Democrats, adding a critique that the party now embraces open borders and releases criminals.

“It is dangerous,” Cruz said. “They’re driving their agenda … and that right is where all the energy is” among Democrats in the state.

“And that is tragic and it’s dangerous,” he reiterated.

Cruz also criticized New York Gov. Kathy Hochul for her administration’s refusal to release SNAP benefit recipient data publicly, questioning transparency with federal funds: “The federal taxpayers shouldn’t pay for it,” Cruz said. “If she won’t give the names, why the hell does she want money from the federal government? And she won’t even tell them the names of who’s receiving it.”

He concluded his remarks by branding Democrats as supporting fraud in an organized and systematic way.
