Ciattarelli Praises Trump in Debate as Sherrill Condemns His Policies

Jack Ciattarelli, the Republican nominee for New Jersey governor, praised President Donald Trump during a debate against Democratic opponent Rep. Mikie Sherrill, awarding him an A for his policies. The exchange occurred as both candidates vie to succeed term-limited Gov. Phil Murphy.

Ciattarelli defended Trump’s record, stating, “I think he’s right about everything he’s doing,” while Sherrill criticized the former president, giving him an F and highlighting rising costs for New Jersey residents. The GOP nominee emphasized his focus on addressing state crises, including border security, and pledged to resist making New Jersey a sanctuary state.

Sherrill accused Ciattarelli of aligning with Trump’s agenda, noting the president labeled him “100% MAGA.” She argued that as governor, her duty would be to prioritize New Jerseyans over political loyalty. The candidates also clashed over government shutdowns, with Ciattarelli criticizing Sherrill for opposing a spending bill under Trump’s administration.

Ciattarelli, who previously ran for governor in 2021, reiterated his commitment to advocating for New Jersey’s 9.3 million residents regardless of the White House occupant.
