Law Enforcement Security Focus Amid Widespread Assaults

Stella Green, December 3, 2025

House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.) told Newsmax today that he will use his first full hearing as panel leader to spotlight rising violence against officers, arguing the issue has become urgent and widespread across local, state, and federal agencies.

The hearing scheduled for this morning will feature nongovernment witnesses and focus on recent increases in attacks nationwide. Garbarino stated incidents involving federal immigration agents as well as municipal police and sheriffs are included. “That’s why it’s my first hearing,” he emphasized. “We have to focus on this increase of attacks on our law enforcement.”

Garbarino expects testimony will include data showing a sharp rise in assaults against officers over the past several years, describing the trend as “across the board.” He stressed the committee’s goal is elevating threats facing officers and framing it as a homeland security concern.

The New York Republican also highlighted ongoing public debate over immigration enforcement while underscoring the need for protection. The hearing aims to examine what Garbarino described as inflammatory political rhetoric contributing hostility toward law enforcement personnel, who he said “are out there enforcing the law.”

Committee aides confirmed the session will include expert testimony on trends in threats and violence against officers.
