Trump Labels Somali Immigrants ‘Garbage’ During Cabinet Meeting Remarks

During Tuesday’s cabinet meeting and subsequent press remarks aired on Newsmax, President Donald Trump made inflammatory statements about Somali immigrants. He referred to them as “garbage,” saying they contribute nothing to society.

Trump stated: “They [Somali immigrants] contribute nothing… We’re bringing in people who aren’t people that say ‘let’s go’. These are people that do nothing but complain.”

The president also claimed the United States is at a tipping point due to immigration, adding: “We’re going to go the wrong way if we keep taking in garbage into our country. Ilhan Omar is garbage… Her friends are garbage.”

Ilhan Omar, who is herself a Somali immigrant and U.S. Representative from Minnesota’s 5th District, reacted swiftly to the remarks via social media.

In addition to direct criticism of Somalis, Trump also took aim at Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, a political opponent, calling him “grossly incompetent.”
