Graham Slams Trump’s Proposed Ukraine Compromise

Stella Green, December 2, 2025

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) voiced sharp criticism of President Donald Trump’s latest peace initiative concerning the Russia-Ukraine conflict Saturday.

In an unusually critical statement for the White House-backed candidate, Graham declared the proposed plan “problematic” and urged a reevaluation before finalizing it. “While there are many good ideas in the proposed Russia-Ukraine peace plan, there are several areas that are very problematic and can be made better,” he wrote.

The plan, reportedly drafted by the administration without Ukrainian input—a point of significant concern—advocated for substantial concessions from Ukraine to Russia, including giving up large amounts of territory and reducing its military size. Graham stated these requirements did not meet his standards for a just resolution.

“The goal of any peace deal is to end the war honorably and justly – and not create new conflict,” the senator emphasized. He further pointed out an often-overlooked aspect: “Finally, to the world: what about the fate of the almost 20,000 Ukrainian children kidnapped by Putin’s forces? This issue has to be addressed in any negotiated settlement.”

This stance marks a divergence from Graham’s typical alignment with Trump’s agenda. Trump himself has prioritized reaching an agreement in Ukraine but has faced resistance from both sides.

The peace plan reportedly involved concessions that the Ukrainian leadership has long labeled as unacceptable.
