Schumer’s Approval Ratings Reach All-Time Low, Siena Poll Reveals

Stella Green, November 18, 2025

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s approval among New York voters has reached a new all-time low, according to a Siena Research Institute poll released Tuesday. The survey revealed Schumer’s favorability plummeted to just 32%—marking his lowest favorable rating in the Siena poll’s 21-year history—while 55% viewed him unfavorably. Even among Democrats, 43% gave him an unfavorable rating, with only 45% of Democrats rating Schumer’s leadership as favorable.

Schumer’s increasing unpopularity comes as progressives have called on him to resign amid anger within the Democratic Party over not winning concessions from President Donald Trump and Republicans to end the longest government shutdown in history. The Siena poll showed Schumer was viewed negatively by almost every demographic group, with Black voters giving the senator his only bright spot, as 59% viewed him favorably compared to 22% who did not.

Siena pollster Steven Greenberg illustrated how far Schumer has fallen from his previous ratings, noting that “in February 2005—the first Siena Poll in its current incarnation—Schumer had a 63%-20% favorability rating. In July 2005, he had his all-time best favorability rating, 70%-22%. Today, Schumer is viewed unfavorably by 74% of Republicans and 61% of independents,” adding that “with Democrats, his favorability rating is barely positive, 45%-43%, down from 52%-36% in September.” The Siena Poll was carried out between Nov. 10-12, among 802 New York State registered voters. The poll has an overall margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
